The Best Action Movies From the 90s Ever Made

The T-1000. Firing two guns at once (while in mid-air optional). "Bullet Time." These are just some of the many blessed things to come out of '90s action cinema. In honor of the greatest genre in the history of ever, here are the 27 best '90s action movies ever made.

This guilty pleasure has EVERYTHING: Wesley Snipes' hair. Future overalls. The Three Seashells, you guys! The only way this excessive ode to machismo could be any more '90s is if it were directed by slap bracelets.

Marvel's first R-rated comic book movie success is still one of their better efforts, opening with a still-badass brawl at a vampire rave and concluding with a kung-fu fight that ends with a vial ninja kicked into the baddie's head. #blessed

24. 'Ronin' (1998)

'RONIN' (1998)
What's better than De Niro? De Niro with a gun, working with a group of ex-spies while precision driving (the wrong way) down Parisian streets in search of a MacGuffin in this gritty, lean car-chase caper.

22. 'Die Hard With a Vengeance' (1995)

'DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE' (1995)
Of the "Die Hard" sequels, the third comes closest to capturing the gritty (and funny) spirit of the first film. Like he did with the original, director John McTiernan keeps the action grounded and the tension taut as John McClane must work with the great Samuel L. Jackson to stop Hans Gruber's brother from stealing gold from NYC's Federal Reserve.

That's how you walk away from an explosion. Robert Rodriguez' first Hollywood feature is a loose remake of his self-funded "El Mariachi" and it thankfully retains that film's core concept of a mariachi carrying a guitar case full of guns, looking for revenge run over-the-top shootout at a time.

"Get off my plane!" There is a reality where this movie stars Kevin Costner, the original actor intended for the role of terrorist-hating President Marshall, instead of Ford. And that's just wrong. There's no one more perfect for the punch-happy POTUS than Indiana Jones, in this engaging thriller that marks the pinnacle of the 90s exploitation of the "'Die Hard' on a (insert inventive location here) premise."

Summer 1997 incepted us all with the idea that Nic Cage would rise from Oscar-winner to over-the-top action star with the one-two punch of "Con Air" and "Face/Off." We loved both movies then, but skip the former (it's bad) and rewatch the latter (it's guilty pleasure bad) -- it's John Woo's best Hollywood film, full of quotable Cage-isms and balletic double-gun shootouts.

Yes, that's Navy SEAL-turned-cook Steven Segal defensively biting down on a butcher knife. Because 1992. "Siege" effectively executes its "Die Hard" on a battleship premise with the exact amount of whatever each scene needs, never going too camp or too serious. Not an easy feat because Segal. Fun fact: Director Andrew Davis would re-team with Tommy Lee Jones one year later for the Oscar-winning "The Fugitive."

Action director Martin Campbell owned the latter half of the decade, with "GoldenEye" and this spirited and funny Zorro adventure that made Catherine Zeta-Jones a star.

Jay Z Sued For $20 Million By Perfume Company For Refusing To Promote Fragrance

(Getty Images)

Jay Z was hit with a nearly $20 million lawsuit on Tuesday from Parlux Fragrances, a perfume company that claims the rapper refused to promote his own fragrance, Gold Jay Z, despite collecting $2 million in royalties. The company is seeking those royalties be returned, in addition to nearly $18 million in damages.

According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday, Parlux claims there was a written agreement for Jay Z to make several promotional appearances for his men’s cologne, but the rapper backed out of all of them. He was reportedly supposed to publicize his fragrance on “Good Morning America,” in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, and at an appearance at Macy’s, among other bookings.

In its court documents, Parlux says, “Sales of Gold Jay Z have declined considerably because of Jay Z’s and his teams lack of interest in supporting and promoting his own brand.” The company also alleges it created five $20,000 prototypes for a special edition of the bottle made of gold, but the rapper “rejected all of them and kept the prototype.”

In addition to the return of the $2 million royalty payment and nearly $18 million in damages, the company also wants a judge to void its contract with Jay Z, as well as his 300,000 stock shares in Perfumania Holdings Inc., which owns Parlux.

R. Kelly Opens Up About Past Sexual Abuse, Defends Bill Cosby

R. Kelly opened up during a wide-ranging interview with GQ about everything from the sexual abuse he faced as a child to the allegations against Bill Cosby to being found not guilty on child pornography charges.

The rapper spoke candidly with Chris Heath for the February 2016 issue of the magazine.

“As far as I can remember, about [age] 7 or 8 to maybe 14, 15. Something like that," he recounted about when the abuse began at the hands of a relative. “Back then, too young to judge. As I’m older, I’ve only learned to forgive it. Was it wrong? Absolutely. But it’s a family member that I love so I would definitely say no to that one. To be honest, even if my mom, I saw her kill somebody, I’m not gonna say, ‘Well, yeah, she definitely should go to jail.’ It’s just something I wouldn’t do.”

Kelly grew up watching "The Cosby Show" and he said only God can tell him that the sexual assault accusations against the actor are true.

Well, my opinion on that is, I don’t know what happened. I’m a fan of Bill Cosby’s from the Bill Cosby show, of course -- who’s not? -- and for me to give my opinion on something that I have no idea if it’s true or not, all I can say is that it was a long time ago. And when I look on TV and I see the 70-, 80-, 90-year-old ladies talking about what happened when they were 17, 18, 19, there’s something strange about it … If God showed me that they were telling the truth, I would say that’s wrong. I don’t care if it was a zillion years ago. But God would have to do that, because God is the only one can show me that. No man can tell me that. No woman can tell me that. And when you wait 70 years, 50 years, 40 years, to say something that simple, it’s strange. You know why I say that is because it happened to me, and it wasn’t true.

Kelly was indicted on charges of child pornography back in 2002 after a video surfaced showing him having sex with a female minor. He was arrested in 2003 on those charges and found not guilty in 2008. Numerous sexual abuse allegations with other minors have still surrounded him through the years.

“When a person is found not guilty, they’re found not guilty. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a murder case, it doesn’t matter what case it is, when they’re found not guilty, they’re not guilty," he said. "And I think that a lot of haters out there wanted to see me go down.”
